Google downtime and internet security

It could possibly be that many routers are acquiring hammered through Denial Of Service attack, but that would take a huge figure of computing machine that are reachable through the net to make that happen. All kind of net availiable computing machine (even your toaster if you have one with a net connection) could be used, all it takes is a net connection and non secure code in the hardware.

My guess is that most software system that is built in into hardware that also has a net connection could be used in a Inernet based onslaught. Take for case all telephone, playstations, WII, X-Box and so on, you get the image, what could a hacker do with the processor power from all of those units?

Smaller items like a phone or even 1000 telephone couldn’t make a waiter go down, well possibly a old waiter. But what if a hacker somehow hacked 10% of all Iphones in the World, and 10% of the playstations and 10% of the… and so forth. That hacker would soon get plentifulness of processor power and broadband, and with that could make even the largest server array to go down.

This raises my inquiry: How can we be sure that code in hardware is secure? I don’t think that net security is on the top precedence list on many hardware manufacurers because it cost to much to implement a secure and fully tested code. I think it’s time to come up with some sort of security standard on hardware and software system that is being used in conjuction with a net connection, that they have been tested and fulfill the demand of that criterion.

Aeroplanes are among the most advanced things out there, well nuclear powerplants are also jolly advanced, and they have a very secure code from a failsafe and operational perspective and the code is probably implemented in serveral programming languages by different teams on different locations, and the code is tested to fulfill all requested tasks and standards. But is ALL code, and we are probably talkling of several millions of rows of code, tested from a Internet attack point of view? Could a modern aeroplane or powerplant be hacked? I don’t know?
